The site of the new ambulatory building of Vic Hospital is located above the existing logistics building, which has the energy production and electrical installations, among others. Since the activity of this logistic building cannot be interrupted during the construction works, the project requires an innovative approach, going beyond traditional construction methods, taking into account all phases of the process.
To avoid interference, a bridge design is proposed, with an arcaded structure that will support the new suspended slabs. This solution achieves several key objectives: 1. To protect the existing buildings during the entire execution of the works, considering that they supply energy to the hospital. 2. To keep the vial operational at all times. Optimize the construction through industrialized systems, which guarantee a fast and efficient execution of the new building.
The building relates to its immediate surroundings in several ways. Like a bite, the south façade of the building bends inward to give distance to the residential building it faces while helping to collect the flow of people coming from the large parking area close by.
On the corner with Puig dels Jueus street the building generates a large public space for the reception of the users of the facility.
The skin of the building is resolved by a series of louvers that provide light to the large atrium and circulations inside the facility while providing lightness to it. These louvers are related in materiality with the general hospital but facilitating the orientation to the user with the change of color (it may remind us of the color of the Puig dels Jueus).
A porch leads to the large climatic atrium that allows vertical circulation to all the equipment. From the first floor, escalators lead to the consultation area. The walkway distributes users to the different waiting rooms with views of the Puig dels Jueus. Large patios illuminate the consultation rooms.
